About Cognition Counselling & Wellbeing Service

Founder of Cognition counselling & wellbeing service

Cognition counselling & wellbeing service is a  private counselling service formed as a way for the founder Clair Conway to share her passion and expertise in supporting others on their journey towards improving their mental health and wellbeing.  Clair is deeply committed to the belief that everyone deserves access to mental health support. Her diverse professional background includes experience in various fields such as supportive and palliative care, supported housing, rehabilitation, prisons, employment services, and mental health support. With over 11 years of experience as a person centred therapist, and her training and delivery in ACT and as a CBT coach practitioner, she has provided counselling to individuals facing a range of challenges, including bereavement, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, relationship breakdowns, addiction, and much more. She emphasises the significance of recognising the effects of mental health on both our cognitive and physical well-being, as well as the daily obstacles it can create. She believes gaining insight into our feelings and understanding the origins of our perceptions about ourselves and our environment is essential for initiating meaningful and lasting positive changes in our health and everyday lives.

Our Approach

Our approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, compassion, and non-judgment. We strive to create a safe and supportive environment where our clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and feelings, and where they can develop the skills and tools they need to thrive.

Person centred therapy

Carl Rogers developed ‘Client Centred Therapy’ in the 1940s.  He believed that the ultimate goal of therapy is to help individuals realise their full potential and become who they truly are. Rodgers believed that everyone has the innate capacity for growth and self improvement. Rodgers approach has had a significant impact on psychotherapy, education, and interpersonal communication, promoting a more humanistic and compassionate way to engage with others.

The Person-Centred approach to therapy calls for the therapist to facilitate the client in finding their own answers and taking control of their own experiences.    Therapy can help you become aware of habits and fixed thought and behaviour patterns that can influence how you relate to others and your environment.  Awareness of these can bring choice, a sense of control, personal responsibility and support you with building resilience, confidence and a healthier lifestyle.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) looks at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and helps you to change some of these to manage the barriers you are facing, by identifying the negative thinking patterns that you may feel trapped in.  It helps you understand that your thoughts, feelings, actions, and body sensations are all connected. By changing one, you can change the others. Helping you to break free from these to improve your mental health and wellbeing

CBT focuses on equipping you with the tools to address current problems in your life and relieve the symptoms you are experiencing before making links to your past and how your beliefs started.
